Tuesday, April 9th: Health&Beauty, The Hecks at Empty Bottle (9 pm, 21+, $8)
Fresh off the release of their debut 7-inch, Trust and Order, off-beat rock duo The Hecks swing by The Bottle for a show with Health&Beauty. The latter has new material too; the recently dropped Guns is proving to be the kind of record that gets better and better with each listen.
Wednesday, April 10th: Massive Ego at Subterranean (8:30pm, 21+, $8)
Featuring members from Snacks, Close Hits and Tender, Massive Ego does what those bands did well- and then some. Their combination of punk energy, pop smarts and T. Rex glam-swagger makes for an impossibly fun show. Expect to hear songs from the band's new tape nope.
Thursday, April 11th: Million Tongues Festival at Empty Bottle (9pm, 21+. $12)
Local psych-rockers Plastic Crimewave Syndicate join Japanese noise pioneer Keiji Haino onstage for a set that should sound unlike anything else you'll hear this year. Haino's penchant for pushing boundaries should be an interesting test for PCS's trippy groovage. The moody, Nico-esque Circuit Des Yeux opens.
Note: Day 2 (Friday) features a headlining set by the legendary Acid Mothers Temple.
Friday, April 12th: Distractions::Distortions Festival at Q4/MultiKulti (7pm, 21+, $7)
The fourth annual Distractions::Distortions has a great two-day lineup, but Friday is especially loaded. Along with a set from Windy City Rock favorites Rambos, the evening will feature performances by Esoteric Tapioca, Velocicopter, An Aesthetic Anaesthetic, The Runnies, Sexy Fights and more. Oh, and I can't forget to mention that the first 100 beers each night are free (first come, first serve, of course).
Saturday, April 13th: Zigtebra at Big Forver (6pm, all ages, DONATE!)
Sweet and quirky lo-fi duo Zigtebra have yet to drop their first record, but that isn't stopping them from headlining Big Forever's PAWS Chicago benefit. The band's Soundcloud is filled with goofball pop songs that should make for a fun night. You'll have to ask around for the address to this one, but it'll be worth it. Remember to be generous too- PAWS is the city's largest no-kill humane organization
Sunday, April 14th: Sam Crossland & The Possible Side Effects at Cobra Lounge (9pm, 21+, $10)
Sam Crossland and company have a scuzzy, bruising sound that's surprisingly easy to digest for all its attitude. New track "Sleep In The Gutter" does its title justice; rusty and rumbling while still leaving room for some slick horror-show organ noodling.
Monday, April 15th: FeelTrip v Cafe Mustache at Cafe Mustache (9pm, all ages, FREE)
Local record label FeelTrip takes over the Logan Square cafe again, bringing members of YAWN, Sister Crystals, Starfoxxx and others to spin wax while you slam Malort cocktails (perfectly named "Surprisingly Good") and local craft beer (Five Rabbit, Half Acre, Finch's). Perfectly chill way to start off your week.
