Show preview: Many Places at Hideout, 3/1

By Melissa Bordeau

Two days is all it took for Many Places to create their almost completely live EP, Home + Departed, with minimal overdubs. Now that’s an accomplishment.

The band did an exceptional job at creating a set of five songs that takes listeners away, allowing the mind to drift into the soothing guitar riffs, drum beats and lead singer Kevin Reig’s calming voice.

The EP was artfully crafted to smoothly transition from one song to the next. This is not a collection of songs that switches from upbeat to calm; rather, they all carry the same feel, but each original in its own way. Listening to the EP from start to finish is the only way to do it. You can hear Home + Departed via Bandcamp below.

You can also catch the band live before they head down to SXSW, when they play this Friday, March 1st at Hideout (also with Project Film and Marko Casso). $8, 10 p.m.
