Thrill Jockey's 20th Anniversary

By Andrew Hertzberg

I’m really not sure what there is to say about this show. Man Forever, you’re mini-drum circle kicked my ear drums in. The Sea and the Cake, you converted me to a fan, and now I have a lot of back-cataloging to explore. Tortoise, it’s a shame it took me so long to see you live. It was an abbreviated set, but fantastic nonetheless. Kicking myself for missing you all these years. And Thrill Jockey: how can we ever repay you? A label consistent with mind-expanding artists, that somehow all retain accessibility within all of their unique experimentation. Between Dustin Wong, Guardian Alien, Pontiak, Sidi Touré, Zomes and more, not to mention the three aforementioned bands that celebrated the 20th anniversary of the label last night, 2012 was a stellar for you, the label, and us, the fans. Here’s to another 20.
