My My My's new single, Kickstarter campaign

By Frank Krolicki

The last material we heard from Chicago "pop powerhouse" My My My came in the form of their 2011 EP Wishing You Whatever's Best, which I reviewed here. But the band won't kiss 2012 goodbye without having given us anything new--they've just put out a single called "Starting to Change." The track is one of their strongest so far, showcasing the interplay between co-singers Russell Baylin and Sarah Snow, with their impassioned vocals riding on top of a swirling melody that builds throughout before reaching cathartic completion. And check out that cosmically-cool artwork by Brian Mead.

While it's just one song for now, My My My have their sights set on recording another full album, and like so many other bands are requesting monetary backing from their fans via a Kickstarter campaign. But being a group that's not the type to shy away from a bit of a twist, they're not only offering the usual rewards (such as a copy of the album once released, signed artwork, or social media shout outs), but are also pledging to volunteer one hour of community service for every $100 contributed to the campaign.

Check out the band's Kickstarter video below and support them here. You can also catch them live at their next show on Wednesday, January 16th at Double Door (tickets).
