Go to There 2012: The Venues

By Andrew Hertzberg

For any regular followers of the blog, this list won't be too surprising. Naturally, there are always places we can venture further, but it's comforting to know some places are a reliable option. And for as much as I gripe about Metro, that venue has hosted some of my favorite shows this year. As opposed to the bands, this list is in exact order of most mentioned:

The Top 10:
3. Schubas
4. Hideout
8. Metro
10. Coles

RIP:
It’s been a tough year for DIY venues, the summer in particular. Naturally, the scene is always shifting, but this year we really lost some stellar venues. While there still remain certain houses, apartments, and lofts still chugging along, it’s getting more on the hush-hush to not risk getting shut-down (by the cops, noise complaints from neighbors, etc.). So long Ball Hall, Treasure Town / Mortville / Casa Donde, and Enemy. Thanks for the memories. On the plus side, I feel like I've heard of more places opening up recently, and I look forward to exploring them in 2013.

Now it's your turn: where did we miss?
