Wednesday, November 28th: Zs, Kwaidan, Paper Mice at Empty Bottle (9:30 PM, 21+, $8 or FREE w/RSVP)
Well tonight should be a proper weird one. The Brooklyn free jazz outfit Zs features Greg Fox (Guardian Alien, Liturgy, GDFX) on drums headline, the experimental Kwaidan is in the middle, and devotees to Windy City Rock should be familiar with the mathy post-punk of Paper Mice by now; if not, get there early to see ‘em open it up.
Thursday, November 29th: Outer Minds, Heavy Times, Summer Girlfriends at Lincoln Hall (8 PM, 21+, $12)
CHIRP Radio once again puts together an amazing group of stellar locals. Outer Minds is fresh off their second release of the year, Heavy Times has been busy prepping their next LP out early next year, and although the bands name may sound a bit anachronistic, Summer Girlfriends' sunny pop-rock is always welcome even in the cold.
Friday, November 30th: Pujol at Ace Bar (8 PM, 21+, $10)
Pujol somehow manages to sound cleaner than a lot of their Nashville counterparts while still maintaining the roughness the town’s garage rock has become known for.
Saturday, December 1st: Funkadesi at Hideout (8 PM, 21+, $15)
With as diverse of instrumentation (bass, guitar, keyboards, sitar, djembe, tablas, congas, and oh so much more) as cultures of sound that influence them (Jamaican, Indian, African), Funkadesi are sure to make for one hell of a show. Plus: All proceeds from this show go to helping Hurricane Sandy relief.
Sunday, December 2nd: Speck Mountain at the Whistler (9:30 PM, 21+, FREE)
The haunting tunes from the local shoe-gaze group are sure to go hand-in-hand against the December nighttime and craft cocktail in hand.
Monday, December 3rd: John Wesley Coleman at Empty Bottle (9:30 PM, 21+, FREE)
Austin eccentric singer-songwriter (and self-proclaimed “trash poet”) hits the Bottle with help from locals Bike Cops, Le Tour, Lionlimb with Miss Alex White DJing between the bands.
