Video: It's a 'Cruel Summer' for Scott Lucas and the Married Men

By Frank Krolicki

Here's one to file under the "What the hell?" category. In a good way. I think.

As part of the A.V. Club's Undercover series--in which the publication recruits various bands to perform cover songs and films them--Scott Lucas and the Married Men performed '80s girl-group Bananarama's "Cruel Summer," a song anyone who's ever watched The Karate Kid has heard. When one sees the words "Scott Lucas," chances are one thinks of Local H, and when one thinks of Local H, chances are one does not think of Bananarama. Which makes the fact that this cover happened pretty awesome. The whole thing happens at a miniature golf course, making it even more surreal and great.

When asked what influenced his decision to cover the song, Scott replies, "Uh, it's probably the best summer song...and someone had already done Pavement." Then later, "I love Elizabeth Shue." So there you go. Check out the performance below, or at the A.V. Club here.
