Spring cleaning is coming a little late for the Empty Bottle. One of the best “underground venues” in Chicago is getting a facelift over the 4.O.J. week’s end, but they’re giving you one last chance to enjoy it in its current beer, sweat, and urine stained condition. Pay your last respects with a FREE show Saturday, July 2nd with some great locals: Animal City, Strychnine, Pet Peeve, House of Normandie and Perfect Kiss are all taking the stage in the venue’s final version of itself before its makeover. I’m slightly bemoaning the news, but I know the people at the Bottle are solid, and will continue housing great music at even better prices. Not to mention, after the remodeling, there’ll be an auction for former flooring, walls, bathroom art and more with all proceeds going to the American Liver Foundation. Keep an eye out for that spot where Isaac Brock sweated on in 1997 or the flooring that the Jack White kneeled on (more details to come next month).
The much and appropriately heralded venue reopens July 7th with a FREE with RSVP show featuring Brontosaurus, Color Radio and the Soil & the Sun. Out with the old and in with the new, as they say. Sad to see its current incarnation go, but I’m always the fan of change and progress. I’m sure it won’t be too long until it feels like home again.
